Crockatt & Powell Go Posh

Well, we were posh from the start really...Sure Waterloo will catch up with us eventually.

As soon as the news broke Pan was closing Adam and I (who both used to work there) got busy. We were looking at premises two days later and made an offer by the end of the week. Now the offer has been accepted and we go to the legals. Since both parties are keen to do a deal I don't anticipate too many problems.

It will be a massive step up - Division two to Premiership in a single leap - and it remains to be seen if we can cope with staff...(The only person we've tried so far ended up a bestselling author!)

But C & P one was a mental risk and just about everyone said we would fail, yet two years on we're not only still here but profitable too. We are 100% sure we can make a go of it on the Fulham Road. But talk is so cheap - it's time for some action...

  1. Congratulations! Big step. I wish the two of you much success and a whole slew of new writers in your staff. Please don't stop blogging. Marie just closed down her blog, so I couldn't take another blow indicating that life is an ever changing kaleidescope.

  2. Good work boys! Now will you *please* open a branch in Islington? (To anyone of the bookselling persuasion reading: North Islington is crying out for a decent independent bookshop...) PS thanks for linking to my favourite review x

  3. Marie: Where does North Islington cover exactly? Stoke Newington? A bit of Hackey and Dalston?

  4. Wowsers! Big congratulations from Nicki and I - we're stunned. You boys should be too busy to blog for a while, but let's have a countdown a la Wood Green.

So...Pan Bookshop reloaded? Pan dedux? Crockatt & Pan?

  5. By North Islington I mean Highbury / Canonbury / Newington Green. Still N1 but only just! There's the Stokey Bookshop half an hour north of me, the Broadway Market bookshop half an hour east, and Borders and Waterstones half an hour south. But nothing where I am! The key location would either be near the Fromagerie at Highbury Barn or at the top of Upper Street near all the interiors shops close to Highbury & Islington tube station. Lost of posh shoppers who want a hardback to go with their chic sideboard / aromatic stilton. Please please please please please!

  6. (Highbury is probably N5 isn't it? Still Islington Council though.)

  8. I'm so pleased for you. We've been reading your blog for ages and it and a number of other bookselling blogs helped to give us the confidence to open our shop.

Hope it goes well (it will!) and look forward to popping in next time I make the big trek south.
